A Vision of the Possible with Southern Baptists in Texas

Baptist Press released a story last week about the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention considering setting aside one million dollars for church planting and revitalization efforts. What makes this newsworthy is that the vision behind the money is based on the use of the wisdom and experience of returning International Mission Board missionaries.

Houston is an ethnically diverse city–very diverse. Many unreached people groups have migrated to Houston. While this reality has been known for sometime among Texans, the SBTC has a vision of the possible. And not just a vision, but a desire to make things happen at an historic moment.

To my other SBC leadership-friends: Prayerfully consider the example of one of our Texas conventions and ask if something similar could happen in your state or association. So, you do not have one million dollars? Do not worry. The money is not the point. The point is understanding the unreached people groups in your backyard and seeing the possibilities of linking arms with men and women who have spent much time making disciples among such peoples in other parts of our world.

What is the possibility in your backyard? Do you see it? How will you respond? Time is ticking. People will be returning soon and settling in across the country. Click here for the IMB’s contact information.
