Collision of Biblical Texts

Sometimes this collision happens. Today was my day.

While reading about a Ph.D. student, I was shocked when the caption noted he was part of the “class of 2020.” 2020?! I immediately thought that was a long way off, then remembered we’re about to enter 2016. The next thought to enter my mind was that I was part of the class of 2001. 2001–that was yesterday.

Last week I read Psalm 90:12: “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (ESV). Where did 2001 go?

One of our children led during our family worship time tonight. She shared Esther 4:14: “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place” (ESV).

I was reminded that the Lord will accomplish His mission in the world, but the question is: “Will he do it through me?”

The collision of these two Old Testament texts and my world caused me to pause and pray for a heart of wisdom. May we recognize the brevity of our lives and make them count for the Kingdom. Time flies. Will the Lord work through us? Let’s be good stewards with time, join the missionary God in His mission, and not miss out on this ripe moment.
