The Most Apostolic Time of the Year

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Gal 4:4-5, ESV).

The Incarnation is the most apostolic act recorded in the Bible. We often do not equate such an act with Christmas. We get caught up in the baby, decorations, gifts, and traditions. But here we have God the Father sending God the Son to fulfill the mission of God.

As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us also remember when the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us (John 1:14), our apostolic God was fulfilling prophecy to restore a broken creation while revealing an aspect of His character to the world. He is a missionary God. He has redeemed and adopted us to be apostolic people.

Merry Christmas.
