Leaders: Calibrate Your Weights

Double Standard — a rule or principle which is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.

The world is filled with double standards. Unfortunately, the Church is too, including theological institutions.

Expectations related to differing job descriptions, responsibilities, and roles do not count as double standards, especially when biblically prescribed. However, favoritism, bigotry, and discrimination have no place within the Kingdom.

As long as the job is getting done, few will complain. As long as positive results are being reported, many will overlook unfair treatment. After all, it is not like adultery, use of pornography, or theft is taking place within the institution, right?

“Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the Lord” (Prov 20:10). Leaders, be sure your weights and measures are correctly calibrated. How you treat people is no small matter. The unity of the Body is at stake. The world watches. The five billion remain.
