Death of a "Saint"

Thomas Monson, president of the LDS Church, died Tuesday. Media outlets across the world posted stories on his passing.Whenever a president dies, he is succeeded by the head of the Quorum of the Twelve, a position currently held by 93 year old Russell Nelson. Now is a time of mourning for many people. The Church has an estimated 16 million members throughout the world. I pray for the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Phil 4:7) to come to those grieving Monson's death. While touring Temple Square, a tour guide once told me that evangelicals and Mormons believe the same things. I politely disagreed and noted if two people look at a stop sign and one person describes it as red with white letters and the other blue with orange letters, both people are not correct. They may call the object a "stop sign," but someone would be wrong--terribly wrong. My ongoing prayer for the LDS Church--and her leaders--is that the Lord may send a Great Awakening among them, sweeping many into the Kingdom (It would not be the first time in history when such has happened among a religiously misguided people.). Mormons may use the same terminology as biblical Christianity but they operate with a different dictionary. And it is this disconnect from the Bible (including the KJV) that separates them from the one and only God (Isa 43:10-11).A couple of years ago, Dr. Travis Kerns was my guest on Strike the Match. Dr. Kerns is one of the leading evangelicals when it comes to all-things-LDS. Listen to our conversation about Mormon doctrine and the LDS Church. Pray for them. Share the truth.
