Evangelism: Deepest Questions Answered 3

Today, I wish to provide you with an update on one of the books I’m presently writing.

Lord willing, in the next two weeks, I will finish the manuscript for my third book with Biblica (Paternoster).  Hopefully, the book will be released later this year.

Presently, the tentative title is Evangelism: Deepest Questions Answered: A Biblical Response to the Questions You’ve Always Wondered About.  I am very excited about this work.

When I was in Colorado over a year ago, I had lunch with my publisher, Volney James, and shared with him my desire to write a book addressing several matters related to evangelism today.  Since a plethora of such works address model specific matters related to sharing the gospel, I wanted to take a more biblical/theological/practical approach, addressing matters related to evangelism.  Volney shared that such a work would be good especially if written toward a younger adult Christian audience, who may not have much of a history in the Christian subculture.

So, what is hopefully to come is a work I believe fills a great need in the Church today.  I am very excited about this book, even the writing style is different (you’ll have to wait and see).  To give you an idea of what to expect, the following is a list of the tentative chapters (not in order):

  • What is evangelism?
  • What is the gospel?
  • What is election?
  • Do people have freewill in their salvation  experience?
  • What is lifestyle evangelism?
  • Do I have to offend people whenever I share the gospel?
  • If God is in control, then why do we need to share the gospel?
  • What if I do not feel like sharing the gospel?
  • What happens to the “man on the remote island” who never hears the gospel?
  • What is repentance?
  • What is faith?
  • What are people “saved” from?
  • Does conversion occur at a point in time or is it a lengthy process?
  • What is the role of the Holy Spirit in evangelism?
  • What is the role of prayer in evangelism?
  • Is there a gift of evangelism?
  • What if someone asks me a question about God that I cannot answer?
  • What is conversion?
  • What does it mean to be “born again”?
  • What happens to children and the mentally disabled who die, never having a chance to respond to the gospel?
  • What should I share in a personal evangelism encounter?
  • What if I make a mistake when sharing the gospel?
  • Am I being disobedient because I cannot go door-to-door sharing the gospel?
  • What should I do if my church is not evangelistic?
  • What if I can’t remember all of those Bible verses to share my faith?
  • What is the “Sinner’s Prayer” and what does it do?
  • How do I transition a conversation from ordinary things to spiritual matters?
  • My family member is not a believer, what is the best way to witness to him/her?
  • After I have shared the gospel with someone, must I always bring up the topic in all of our future conversations?
  • What do I do if someone tells me they do not want to follow Jesus?
  • What do I do if someone tells me they do want to follow Jesus?
  • Does a loving God send people to hell?
  • What if I ended up not being Christ-like when trying to share Christ with someone?

I would grealty appreciate your prayers as I wrap up this manuscript and begin working with the editor and others with the company to get things ready for publication.  It has always been a blessing to work with the folks at Biblica.

Oh yeah, make sure you buy 10 or 15 copies of the book when it is published; it will make a great gift for all of your loved ones on Flag Day or Canada Day this year.
