EMS Conference: Past and Future of Evangelical Mission 2

Evangelical Missiological Society (EMS)

I have been a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society for almost twenty years. I served several years as the Southeastern regional vice president, followed by a few years as the executive vice president for administration. I was involved as a doctoral student. I was involved as an academic. I was involved as a pastor.

I share this information to emphasize, whether you are in the academy, the church, or on the field, EMS is an excellent society in which to be a member. Welcome to my recruitment post.

In addition to regional meetings, EMS hosts an annual national meeting. During this gathering centered along an annual theme, plenary speakers share and numerous papers are presented. The pandemic has forced this October 9-10 gathering to move on-line for the first time in our history.

Early bird registration is available until August 31. See HERE. There is a student discount.

Membership has its benefits, including a registration discount and annual book. See HERE. Plus, you get to identify with the cool kids. 😎

Curious about this year’s presentations? See HERE.

I am finishing my next book, Apostolic Imagination: Rethinking Contemporary Missions (Baker Academic), later this year. During the Friday afternoon session, I plan to give a presentation titled: “Apostolic Imagination: Re-thinking the Future of Evangelical Mission.” So, if you desire a glimpse of the forthcoming book, jump into the 5:15 PM (Central Time) session.

This is a great year to check out EMS. Though there is much more to the society than the annual meeting, the on-line event will provide a glimpse of what takes place every fall. Time to join!
